These pages have been reorganised to make it easier to navigate the areas that interest you.

My name is Karen (aka Katerina) and my passion is costume and Florence!
My interests include: Embroidery, Calligraphy and Illumination, Art - Pen & Ink & pencil, Costume, Accessories and 16th century Florence.

There are many ways to describe what I like doing: living historian, costume re-creator or  part-time experimental reconstructionist - researching, experimenting and re-creating 'historical' personal items,  based on extant items and research available at the time. These are mostly of 16th century Medici Florence and Tuscany -  particularly clothing and accessories -   My dream is to get to study, hold and analyze extant 16th century Florentine clothing first hand, then to try to recreate it! This has at least begun, as I attended the first Costume Colloquium, Florence in November, 2008. I got to talk to the conservators of the three Pisa dresses, of the Prato camicia. We got to examine the dresses first hand. I also met Roberta Orsi Landini, Carole Collier Frick, Santina Levey, Maria Hayward.

I am a member of: Australian Costumer's Guild, UK Costume Society, Society for Creative Anachronism.

In the past I have had articles and/or art work published in Australian Realms (Australian roleplaying magazine), Cold Angel (freelance comic), Coztume (Austarlian Costumer's Guild newsletter) and Cockatrice (SCA A&S Magazine).
