Ever since I was a young girl, I have loved pirate movies. I have always wondered how to incorporate this into the SCA context, in a period manner. As privateers nominally gave part of their prize to Crown or Lord Admiral, in period, this seemed an appropriate way to help raise funds for the Kingdom of Lochac. So, essentially, the Merchant & Privateer ship The Gardian and its Crew are loyal to the Crown of Lochac providing funds and prize to the Kingdom of Lochac. We are not pirates!
In the 16th century, privateers were a source of raising money and protecting the lands of the Crown and Kingdom. We aim to do the same. By Their Royal Majesty's generosity, they have provided a signed Letter of Marque, for the crew of The Gardian. We, for our part, will abide by certain ordinances in an effort to deserve this honour. Firstly, the Captaincy is auctioned annually. Profits from this go to the Kingdom Coffers. There will also be held an annual Auction Rapier Tourney. One tenth of the prize, as common in period, will go to the Kingdom Coffers.
