As we intend to request a Letter of the Marque from Crown, each year, we have ordinances that have been agreed on and sent to Crown. It is hoped that, if we have gentles who are likewise interested, in other parts of the Kingdom of Lochac, that we may officially start up a Privateers Guild. Then we could auction off the High Admiralty! What a donation that would make! Then we can have Rapier Tourneys, ship races......

If you are interested in becoming Captain, First Mate or a Crew member, please read these.

• Raise money for the Kingdom of Lochac by means of annual auctioning of Ship's Captaincy, First Mates Rapier Tourney and other individual items of a fundraising nature, not being fees to attend an actual SCA event.
• Service to the Kingdom and local Barony. This is done by means of an agreed service by each crew member, at the time of joining the Crew, along with other services during the year.
• Not hinder or hurt any person loyal to the Kingdom of Lochac and it's Crown
• Have fun while recreating and researching, as much as possible, period seafaring and related practices especially in relation to Privateers. This can include sailing, navigation, history etc.
• provide a Ship's Log (with financial records) to the Kingdom Exchequer and Crown by end of June, annually. This is done by the Owner of the Ship (also Reeve) and Ship's Captain.
• The Owner of the Ship will appoint a Master of the Ship, the representative of the Owner on the ship. These are permanent positions unles the Owner decides to sell the ship (for a donation to the Kingdom).
• 'Ranking' on the ship is as follows: Ship's Owner/ Master of the Ship and Captain/ First Mate/ Navigator and Pilot/ Heads of Gunners, Mariners, Rapier Soldiers or Archers (as applicable)/ Crew. The Captain and First Mate are not permanent positions.
• The Owner will provide a payment of one 'Aztec gold' (Chocolate coin) to every crew member when they join. The Captain will recieve an eye patch. The First Mate received a bandana, as symbols of their ranks.
• The Captaincy is to be auctioned in the third quarter of the SCA year (March - May) with all funds being sent to the Kingdom Exchequer, as the Ship's bond to the Kingdom. The Captain gets to keep the Letter of Marque as part of his 'fee'.
• The First Mate's Tourney will be held in the 2nd quarter (August- October) and is in the form of a Rapier Auction Tourney, with all funds being donated - being a tithe (1/10) to Crown, remainder of funds to local Rapier. Funds being sent to the Kingdom Exchequer and Baronal Reeve. This event must be made through Baronial Council, as it will be an official SCA event.
• Each year, a request will be made to the current Crown, for a signed Letter of Marque to allow the Ship to act as Privateer for the year. This will depend on the generosity of the Crown, at the time.
• A bond will be written, to Crown, from the Owner and Captain of the Ship, on behalf of their crew, to the amount raised in the Captain's Auction.

Expectations of the Crew:

• Owner: (also Reeve) to ensure fundraising events occur, monies are sent to Kingdom Exchequer, ensure the Ship's Log (and financial records) are complete and sent to Kingdom Exchequer and Crown annually, to organise the Captain's Auction, to appoint a Master of the Ship and Crew, to organise the annual Ship Crew's picnic, to provide new crew members with their payment of one 'Aztec gold' (chocolate coin), to provide crew with insignia (favours), to approach Crown with request for a Letter of Marque annually, to organise the making of the Letter of Marque, Ship's bond.
• Master of the Ship: representative of the Owner of the ship, to organise the First Mate's Auction Rapier tourney each year, safekeeping of the Ship's flag.
• Captain: supply a ship's Log to the Owner, for the year of your Captaincy, and to lead our forces against other Privateering ventures (either in archery, rapier or enthusiasm!)
• First Mate: Protect the Ship, Captain and Crew, by means of the sword. Help Ship's Master to organise the following First Mate's Tourney.
• Crew: to provide a service to the ship, or Kingdom of Lochac.
