Falda/ Underskirt
11/05 to 10/12/05:
|
This falda (underskirt) is made from one layer of cotton
drill. Cotton was used to keep the cost down, to be able to breathe and
provide a tight weave for better protection. Cotton was used for
some items of clothing, in 15th and 16th century Italy.
The falda will provide one
layer of protection for the
abdomen, upper and lower legs, for the rapier outfit. It is based on
patterns from Alcega (farthingale), Patterns of Fashion and the
extant Eleanor of Toledo dress.
I decided to cartridge pleat it , to give more fullness to the falda.
The edge was trimmed with braid to the hemline (ebay). .
